How many books can I borrow? How long can they be borrowed for?

Building A of the Office of Library and Information has set the following borrowing rules based on reader identity:
1. Faculty and staff (including graduate students) can borrow up to 25 books for 42 days.
2. A student can borrow up to 15 books for 21 days.
3. An alumnus can borrow up to 8 books for 21 days.
4. A visitor can borrow up to 5 books for 14 days.

Is renewal service available? How do I renew a borrowed book?
|
A borrowed book can be renewed once on the due date or the day before the due date if no reservation has been made and no late return rules are set. Ways to renew are as follows:
1. Online renewal: Log into the personal library account with your username and password on the Office of Library and Information’s website to select books to be renewed.
2. By phone: Call a librarian at the front desk and tell him/her your student number (library card number) and the book to be renewed; he/she will help you complete the renewal process.
3. By e-mail: Send an email containing your student number (library card number), name and the details of the book to be renewed to library@gcloud.csu.edu.tw.

How do I reserve a book?

If【Status】of the book searched in the library system is【On Loan】, a reservation for the book can be made via the following methods:
1. Online reservation: Select the book to be reserved on the query screen and then login with your username and password.
2. Phone reservation: Call a librarian at the front desk and tell him/her your student number (library card number) and the book to be reserved; he/she will help you make the reservation.
3. E-MAIL reservation: Send an email containing your student number (library card number), name and the details of the book to be reserved to library@gcloud.csu.edu.tw.
※When the book is returned, the library will notify you by email. Please make sure that your email account can receive emails.

Why is my reservation cancelled?
|
When the book is returned, the library will notify readers by email in order according to reservations received, and reserve the book for 7 days. If a reader fails to pick up the book within the defined period, the reservation will be cancelled.

How do I view my borrowing history?
|
There are two ways for readers to view their personal borrowing history:
1. Visit the library website to select “Personal Borrowing History” under “Library Resources” and enter your card number and password. Card number refers to student number, faculty/staff number or alumni/visitor library card number. If you forgot your password, please contact the front desk on Floor 1 by phone.
2. Visit the library website to select “Personal Borrowing History Query” under “Quick Links” and enter your card number and password.

What should I do if I cannot login to see my borrowing history?
|
Login failure for viewing personal borrowing history may be due to the following reasons:
1. Password is entered incorrectly.
2. Password is null because it was not set when an alumni or visitor library card is issued.

Can I borrow or return a book for a classmate?
|
You can help a classmate return a book, but you are not allowed to borrow a book for him/her. Using another person’s card to borrow books is also prohibited.

What should I do if I lose a borrowed book?
|
If you lose a book, please report the loss to the front desk on Floor 1 immediately to avoid overdue charges. Replacement may be provided in the following ways:
1. The reader can buy the new book: Please buy the latest edition if available. A hardcover edition cannot be replaced by a paperback one. The replacement procedure may be completed once the reader provides the new book.
2. The library can buy the new book: The reader pays the list price of the lost book. If it is impossible to find the list price, the price is calculated on a per-page basis. Each page costs NT$2. If the lost book is out of print and no new book is available on the market, the reader needs to pay five times the list price.

How do I return books if Building A of the Office of Library and Information is closed?
|
A return box placed to the right side of the wall in front of the building entrance is available for returning books.

Why can’t I find the book on the shelf specified in the Library Catalog?
|
If the book is not on the shelf even though the【Status】of the online library catalog is【On the Shelf】, a reader can fill out a search form at the front desk on Floor 1. Our librarians will search for the book specified in the form three times in two weeks. The search result will be sent to the applicant by email.

Can I borrow journals?
|
In order to maintain the integrity and timeliness of journals, no latest journals can be checked out. Readers may make a copy of, or scan, the latest journals if necessary. Out-of-date bound journals can be borrowed. Please refer to the relevant borrowing regulations for out-of-date bound journals.

What should I do if the journal I am looking for is not on the shelf?
|
A journal may not be on the shelf for the following reasons:
1. The library has not yet received the journal and has already asked the publisher to expedite the process.
2. The journal is placed in the library of a relevant department.
3. The journal was put in a cabinet by a reader. Please open the cabinet to look for it.
4. The journal was put on a reading table or chair on any floor or placed in the area for books to be shelved.
5. Someone is using the journal.
6. A reader put the journal on a wrong shelf, hid it away, etc.

Does Building A of the Office of Library and Information collect past exam papers?
|
Building A of the Office of Library and Information currently does not collect past exam papers of graduate institutes of Cheng Shiu University.

Where are student projects? Can I borrow them?
|
Student projects are stored in Cheng Shiu Works Area on Floor 4 and can be checked out.

Does Building A of the Office of Library and Information collect yearbooks?
|
Yearbooks may not be displayed and checked out for information safety reasons.
|
Does the library have out-of-date newspapers? Can I borrow them?
|
Only newspapers published within the recent three months are collected. The newspapers published within the most recent month are stored on Floor 1, and the rest are on Floor 2. Please contact a librarian at the front desk on Floor 1 if you would like to borrow them.
