    How do faculty and students at Cheng Shiu University access Building A of the Office of Library and Information?

    They can access the building with their ID Cards and Student Cards, respectively. A student without a Student Card can present his/her ID Card for entrance.

    How do visitors access Building A of the Office of Library and Information? Can they borrow books?

    Visitors aged 16 and above may obtain a “temporary card” with a valid identity card, such as an “ID Card” or a “driver’s license” at the entrance on Floor 1.

    How does a freshman borrow books?

    Please present your Student Card or any other valid identity card with a photo at the front desk on Floor 1 of the Office of Library and Information to borrow books.

    How does a transfer or reentry student borrow books?

    Please present your Student Card or any other valid identity card with a photo at the front desk on Floor 1 of the Office of Library and Information to borrow books.

    Can alumni borrow books?

    Yes. Please apply for an Alumni Library Card at the front desk on Floor 1 of Building A, Office of Library and Information, to borrow books. Refer to【Library Card Application Regulations for Alumni and Visitors (Part-Time Faculty)】for more details.

    Can visitors borrow books?

    Yes. Please apply for a Visitor Library Card at the front desk on Floor 1 of Building A, Office of Library and Information, to borrow books and refer to【Library Card Application Regulations for Alumni and Visitors (Part-Time Faculty)】for more details.

     

    -Borrowing and Returning Books-

    How many books can I borrow? How long can they be borrowed for?

    Building A of the Office of Library and Information has set the following borrowing rules based on reader identity:

    1. Faculty and staff (including graduate students) can borrow up to 25 books for 42 days.

    2. A student can borrow up to 15 books for 21 days.

    3. An alumnus can borrow up to 8 books for 21 days.

    4. A visitor can borrow up to 5 books for 14 days.

    Is renewal service available? How do I renew a borrowed book?

    A borrowed book can be renewed once on the due date or the day before the due date if no reservation has been made and no late return rules are set. Ways to renew are as follows:

    1. Online renewal: Log into the personal library account with your username and password on the Office of Library and Information’s website to select books to be renewed.

    2. By phone: Call a librarian at the front desk and tell him/her your student number (library card number) and the book to be renewed; he/she will help you complete the renewal process.

    3. By e-mail: Send an email containing your student number (library card number), name and the details of the book to be renewed to library@gcloud.csu.edu.tw.

    How do I reserve a book?

    If【Status】of the book searched in the library system is【On Loan】, a reservation for the book can be made via the following methods:

    1. Online reservation: Select the book to be reserved on the query screen and then login with your username and password.

    2. Phone reservation: Call a librarian at the front desk and tell him/her your student number (library card number) and the book to be reserved; he/she will help you make the reservation.

    3. E-MAIL reservation: Send an email containing your student number (library card number), name and the details of the book to be reserved to library@gcloud.csu.edu.tw.

    ※When the book is returned, the library will notify you by email. Please make sure that your email account can receive emails.

    Why is my reservation cancelled?

    When the book is returned, the library will notify readers by email in order according to reservations received, and reserve the book for 7 days. If a reader fails to pick up the book within the defined period, the reservation will be cancelled.

    How do I view my borrowing history?

    There are two ways for readers to view their personal borrowing history:

    1. Visit the library website to select “Personal Borrowing History” under “Library Resources” and enter your card number and password. Card number refers to student number, faculty/staff number or alumni/visitor library card number. If you forgot your password, please contact the front desk on Floor 1 by phone.

    2. Visit the library website to select “Personal Borrowing History Query” under “Quick Links” and enter your card number and password.

    What should I do if I cannot login to see my borrowing history?

    Login failure for viewing personal borrowing history may be due to the following reasons:

    1. Password is entered incorrectly.

    2. Password is null because it was not set when an alumni or visitor library card is issued.

    Can I borrow or return a book for a classmate?

    You can help a classmate return a book, but you are not allowed to borrow a book for him/her. Using another person’s card to borrow books is also prohibited.

    What should I do if I lose a borrowed book?

    If you lose a book, please report the loss to the front desk on Floor 1 immediately to avoid overdue charges. Replacement may be provided in the following ways:

    1. The reader can buy the new book: Please buy the latest edition if available. A hardcover edition cannot be replaced by a paperback one. The replacement procedure may be completed once the reader provides the new book.

    2. The library can buy the new book: The reader pays the list price of the lost book. If it is impossible to find the list price, the price is calculated on a per-page basis. Each page costs NT$2. If the lost book is out of print and no new book is available on the market, the reader needs to pay five times the list price.

    How do I return books if Building A of the Office of Library and Information is closed?

    A return box placed to the right side of the wall in front of the building entrance is available for returning books.

    Why can’t I find the book on the shelf specified in the Library Catalog?

    If the book is not on the shelf even though the【Status】of the online library catalog is【On the Shelf】, a reader can fill out a search form at the front desk on Floor 1. Our librarians will search for the book specified in the form three times in two weeks. The search result will be sent to the applicant by email.  

    Can I borrow journals?

    In order to maintain the integrity and timeliness of journals, no latest journals can be checked out. Readers may make a copy of, or scan, the latest journals if necessary. Out-of-date bound journals can be borrowed. Please refer to the relevant borrowing regulations for out-of-date bound journals.

    What should I do if the journal I am looking for is not on the shelf?

    A journal may not be on the shelf for the following reasons:

    1. The library has not yet received the journal and has already asked the publisher to expedite the process.

    2. The journal is placed in the library of a relevant department.

    3. The journal was put in a cabinet by a reader. Please open the cabinet to look for it.

    4. The journal was put on a reading table or chair on any floor or placed in the area for books to be shelved.

    5. Someone is using the journal.

    6. A reader put the journal on a wrong shelf, hid it away, etc.

    Does Building A of the Office of Library and Information collect past exam papers?

    Building A of the Office of Library and Information currently does not collect past exam papers of graduate institutes of Cheng Shiu University.

    Where are student projects? Can I borrow them?

    Student projects are stored in Cheng Shiu Works Area on Floor 4 and can be checked out.

    Does Building A of the Office of Library and Information collect yearbooks?

    Yearbooks may not be displayed and checked out for information safety reasons.

    Does the library have out-of-date newspapers? Can I borrow them?

    Only newspapers published within the recent three months are collected. The newspapers published within the most recent month are stored on Floor 1, and the rest are on Floor 2. Please contact a librarian at the front desk on Floor 1 if you would like to borrow them.

     

    - Interlibrary Cooperation-

    How do I apply for interlibrary cooperation?

    1. If you have checked that the library does not have the book you are looking for, you can use the Nationwide Document Delivery System to find it. First time registration is required to create a reader account under the Reader Section of the system. The service is only available for current students and faculty.

    2. After submitting an application and selecting the library, readers can search online library catalogs of different schools and should pay attention to the handling cost and time for each school.

    3. When the book applied for arrives, a notification email will be sent to the reader. Please pick up the book and pay the fee at the front desk of Floor 1.

    When will the book applied arrive?

    It takes approximately 3 – 14 days depending on the handling schedule and the delivery method of the library that owns the book.

    Can I go to another school to borrow books?

    Yes.

    Faculty and students may ask for an interlibrary cooperation card for the school to be visited at the front desk on Floor 1 to borrow books from another library. They must comply with the requirements of any other library.

    What should I do if I forgot my password?

    Please select “Forgot Password” in the Reader Section of the Nationwide Document Delivery System to enter your ID Card number. The system will automatically inform you of your password by email.

    What should I do if my account is cancelled or expired?

    You may send an email to the librarian in charge to request time extension or account deletion. We will handle your request as soon as possible. You can also contact us by phone at 07-7310606 Ext. 2358.

    Can I apply for a full-text copy of a thesis/dissertation?

    The answer depends on whether or not the author has signed the Copyright License Agreement when the thesis/dissertation was submitted. If the author did not sign the Agreement, only one-third of the thesis/dissertation can be copied according to intellectual property regulations.

    How do I connect to the wireless network?

    A full-coverage wireless network is available for the library. Faculty and students need to be certified by the means disclosed by the Internet Section of the Computer Center to connect to the wireless network with web-based system credentials for the first time. Certification means: Open a web browser (IE, etc.) after the wireless network automatically obtains IP. A certification screen will then be shown. Should you have any questions, please contact the Internet Section (Ext. 2381).

    Can I print out reports?

    There is a printer next to the Information Access Area on Floor 1 for readers to print reports or documents.

    Fee: NT$2 per black and white page; NT$5 per color page; NT$150 per print card. NT$10 will be refunded for card withdrawal.

    You can purchase a print card at the front desk on Floor 1.

    Is there a copy machine? How much does photocopying cost?

    There is a self-service photocopying area next to the Information Access Area on Floor 1. You can purchase a photocopy card (NT$150 per card) at the front desk on Floor 1. Single page copy is also available at the front desk.

    Can a student recommend books?

    Readers can make recommendation through Online Book Recommendation. Please check our catalog system to make sure that the library does not have the book recommended before filling out the recommendation form.

    Can I connect to the Internet through my laptop? Do I need to bring a network cable?

    A full-coverage wireless network is available for the library. Readers may log in with username and password to access the network. Visitors can create an iTAIWAN account for network connection if necessary. Please refer to wireless network instructions for setup.

    How do I borrow a study room or a group discussion room?

    There are 19 study rooms and 2 group discussion rooms available for faculty and students on Floors 1 through 4. A minimum of 5 people is required for using a group discussion room. Please refer to the Room and Equipment Usage Guidelines for relevant rules.

    Is there a scanner in Building A of the Office of Library and Information?

    There is one scanner available in the Information Access Area on Floor 1.
